2000 Discovery Drive is a step closer to completion as colleagues and partners gathered for a Topping Out ceremony on Thursday 6th November to mark the project reaching its highest point of construction.
The development for Prologis UK, a leading life science investor, adds to Cambridge Biomedical Campuses’ growing research cluster and will provide over 109,000 sq ft of innovative office and laboratory space. Once complete, 2000 Discovery Drive will be surrounded by leaders in the science and technology sector such as BioNTech, AstaZeneca and the NHS; all of which are dedicated to advancing scientific research and creating more effective medicine.
The project progress adds to SDC’s growing portfolio at Cambridge Biomedical Campus, having constructed 1000 Discovery Drive in 2023. The fourth floor of this versatile structure, fitted out by SDC earlier this year, included laboratory areas, write up zones, and staff rest spaces for Cambridge University Hospital Trust’s Histopathology and Diagnostic department.
2000 Discovery Drive is due to be complete in October 2026 and will accommodate a mix of wet and dry laboratories, alongside high-quality office areas spread across six floors.
The project is targeting a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating and an EPC Rating A, both of which are underpinned by the building’s passive design principles. The high-performance façades balance glazing with solar shading to maximise the efficiency of ventilation and heat recovery. The building is set to be all-electric, with power generated on-site through photovoltaic panels and air source heat pumps.
“Reaching this milestone is a significant achievement for all involved and represents a vital step in creating a sustainable and thriving research community at Cambridge Biomedical Campus. We are proud to work in partnership with Prologis UK to deliver high-quality office and laboratory spaces that will enhance the research capabilities already on the campus.” – Luke Norris, Project Director
