Fulbourn Primary School Careers Day

Fulbourn Primary School Careers Day

Published on:

On Monday 3rd June, a team from SDC visited Fulbourn Primary School to work with Year 5 and 6 pupils in support of their Careers Day.

The afternoon began with Project Manager, Luke Norris, leading an assembly to introduce SDC to the children; explaining what we do, the kinds of projects we work on, and how the skills of collaboration and teamwork underpin everything we do. He then set them the challenge of creating a mini tender document using an imaginary client brief;

"We are looking to build a new waterpark on the outskirts of Cambridge. It needs to have a selection of activities that will appeal to a wide range of customers, from small children to adults. The budget is £15million"

The children returned to their classrooms and, with the support of the SDC team, got to work in groups to design, price, and present their own waterpark ideas. They had a ‘deadline’ of one hour to complete their tender.

Following this, the classes returned to the hall when they discussed the challenges they came up against, including delegating work, listening to others, and working together to achieve their objectives. Luke also answered questions about working at SDC.

Everyone had a fantastic afternoon and the SDC team were extremely impressed with the work produced. Following a review of all the tenders, the team have awarded the top three tenders with with prizes. The winning team’s design is also being rendered by the SDC 3D Design Department, to be sent to the school for display.
