A New Laboratory Building on the Babraham Research Campus

Published on:

SDC’s latest project to start on site is a 40,000 sq ft multi-tenanted office and laboratory building in Cambridge.

This purpose-built facility is a joint venture between BioMed Realty and Babraham Research Campus and will see BioMed’s footprint at the campus expand to more than 130,000 sq ft.

Situated to the West of the campus and to the rear of the Glenn Berge and Dorothy Hodgkin Buildings, which SDC previously built in 2019, the new development will provide high-quality, sustainable accommodation split across two floors. The fitted laboratories and office areas will provide space for existing or expanding life sciences companies, and flexibility has been designed into the floorplate.

The scheme includes soft and hard landscaping proposals sympathetic to the natural habitat and environs, whilst the design complements the remainder of the campus, the conservation area, and heritage assets.

A BREEAM rating of ‘Excellent’ is being targeted, and the building will incorporate renewable energy sources and low-carbon initiatives, with a notable net gain in biodiversity.

The scheme is due for completion at the end of next year.
