Undergraduate Industrial Placements in Quantity Surveying

SDC is proud to offer a selection of undergraduate placements on its highly successful Management Trainee programme. With a focus on Quantity Surveying, SDC is keen to speak with students on the following courses:

  • BSc Quantity Surveying and Commercial Management
  • BSc Quantity Surveying
  • BSc Construction Management (Quantity Surveying)

If you are a confident individual with a strong desire to work within the construction industry, and are seeking an industrial placement for 9 months to 1 year, SDC could offer you a placement at the following locations:

  • Bedford Head Office
  • Oxford HUB
  • Site based on projects across East Midlands, Northamptonshire, Buckinghamshire, Bedfordshire, Cambridge and Oxfordshire 

Successful candidates on SDC’s Industrial Placement scheme will have a bespoke training plan. The plan will be based around Quantity Surveying but will also provide the opportunity for exposure to other disciplines within SDC. It will allow you to gain real experience on live projects and be part of the team that drives the successful delivery of the project for clients. 


Working closely with your Mentor and Director, this salaried placement will offer the opportunity to:

  • Increase your skills and competencies highly sought after by employers
  • Give you an insight into the way organisations operate and the challenges they face
  • Provide you with networking opportunities
  • Enable you to attend in-house and external training courses


As part of your training, you will learn how to:

  • Prepare contracts, cash flow forecasts and final accounts
  • Assist in the procurement of key trades, and how this aligns with the project procurement strategy
  • Work with and maximise supply chain relationships through building and maintaining strong relationships
  • Prepare financial information for reporting purposes and attend CVR meetings on real projects
  • Undertake on-site measures and re-measures
  • Control variations
  • Value, certify and issue any relevant payment notices for the subcontract works
  • Submit external valuations so that payments are received by the due date


  • Having a mentor who may be able to act as a referee for you in future job applications
  • Hands on experience in Quantity Surveying
  • Work in a salaried position with paid holidays and many other benefits
  • Potential to be offered a full-time position after completion of degree


  • On track to achieve at least a 2.1 degree in a relevant subject
  • Minimum GCSE Grade 4 (C) or above in English and Maths
  • Must be eligible to work in the UK
  • Driving licence essential
