Work at Newnham College recently reached a milestone with the completion of the reinforced concrete frame for the new student and conference accommodation building.

To mark the occasion a traditional ‘topping out’ ceremony was held on Friday 6th October and attended by key personnel involved in the project including the principal of Newnham College, Dame Carol Black and Bursar, Jenny Raine .

The project began a year ago when the 1960s Strachey Building was demolished and work began on a new building which will house 90 high-quality en-suite student bedrooms, a café, offices and conference facilities. A further 19 bedrooms are also being refurbished in the existing Fawcett Building, which adjoins the new build.

Attendees of the topping out ceremony signed a wall to commemorate the event which will be encased in the structure. Construction is scheduled for completion by September 2018, ready to welcome students for the new academic year.
