Date published: 11 August 2011
'Hard to Heat Homes Scheme Wins LABC Award
SDC were recognised for high standards of construction and
workmanship by the LABC on Friday 8th July. Mark Bradbury, SDC's
Director of Housing, Selina Chappell and the team involved with the
'Hard to Heat Homes' project were presented with the Building
Excellence Award at Milton Keynes Council Chamber by LABC Vice
President Mike Sansom.
Working in partnership with Aragon Housing Association, Grand Union Housing Group, Loughborough University, Bedford College, Cambridge Architectural Research, Venables Associates, Instinctively Green and Eco Design.
This pioneering retrofit project in which a bungalow in
Wrestlingworth in Bedfordshire was fitted with the latest green
technology to reduce its carbon footprint in line with Government
initiatives to meet a target of 80% reduction in carbon emissions
by 2050.
Already the tenants living in the house have noticed a large fall in their water and energy bills as a direct result of the new technologies they are now using.
