A Healthy Future for Bletchley Residents

New State-Of-The-Art Leisure Facility Opens in Milton Keynes
SDC are proud to have delivered the new state-of-the-art leisure facility in Milton Keynes which was officially opened on Saturday 9th January by Cllr Euan Henderson the Mayor of Milton Keynes.
The new facility replaces the first leisure centre ever built in the UK which was officially opened by Sir Roger Bannister CBE on 10th February 1973. The original leisure centre was an iconic building when constructed in 1972 and an important part of Milton Keynes history. No longer providing the facility required of a modern leisure complex, discussions began in 2002 to replace the building as part of the wider regeneration of central Bletchley.
The new centre with full accessibility for people with disabilities, commissioned by Milton Keynes Council, includes an 8 lane 25 metre swimming pool with sauna and steam room, 6 badminton court sports hall, 7 rink bowls hall, 4 squash courts, spinning room, fitness suite, gymnastics hall, multi-function hall, multi-use studio and café. The centre has been designed to create visual links between inside and out, with the pool façade, café, fitness and multi-use suits all looking out over the public areas.
Many features have been incorporated into the design of the Leisure Centre which will contribute towards reduced carbon emissions and efficient use of energy, these include the installation and use of thermal wheels, biomass boilers, rainwater harvesting, zone control of lighting and heating and high efficiency chillers with heat recovery.
It is hoped that the energetic, yet tranquil environment that has been created will meet the leisure and sporting needs of the whole local community.
