Best Sustainable Development
SDC Special Projects Division are proud and honoured to have been awarded The LABC Building Excellence Award for Best Sustainable Development for the Creative Exchange in St Neots. The Creative Exchange also received a commendation in the Best Large Commercial Development category. The award was presented on 24th April to the Project Architect February Phillips of 5th Studio.
The Creative Exchange is a contemporary concrete framed four storey building which has been designed for small and start up creative led businesses to encourage job and business creation and enable accessible opportunities for economically inactive adults.
The timber products used have all been sourced from Forestry Stewardship Council certified suppliers to ensure that management of the forest from which the wood comes conserves biological diversity and its associated values to maintain the integrity of the forest. The internal space of the building interconnects making maximum use of the natural light, solar thermal panels collect 'free' heating power from the sun to heat the water and the green roof provides natural insulation. The building's environmental credentials are outstanding achieving a BREEAM 'Very Good' rating and it was designed and built with future generations in mind.
The Creative Exchange has now been entered for the National
Finals which will be announced at the end of October.
