Ground Breaking Ceremony
A ground breaking ceremony to mark the commencement of construction of Anjulita Court, a 62 place care home at North Brickhill, Bedford took place on Friday 11th April a year after planning was approved and construction is now well under way.
The care home will provide care for those suffering from dementia needing residential care or nursing care, those needing rehabilitation and respite care and those who are frail & elderly needing residential or nursing care. The development is a partnership between The Ibbett Trust, a local Bedfordshire trust and MHA Care Group(Methodist Homes for the Aged), a national charity providing services for over 12,500 people.
Clifton Ibbett, Chairman of the Ibbett Trust and Roger Davies, Chief Executive of MHA, (pictured) performed the sod cutting ceremony. At a reception held after the ceremony Mr Ibbett told assembled guests, "It has taken several years to reach this stage but I am very pleased that today marks the realisation of an ambition I had over 30 years ago to build a state of the art care home."
This two storey Registered Care Home will be located at the end
of a ¼ mile tree lined boulevard (The Ride).
The impressive design includes numerous gable ends which are shaped
like dutch barns and the building encloses a large central
landscaped courtyard. The main entrance is set beyond a large
semi-circular paved feature area which will be extensively lit at
night,
The new home will include 30 ensuite bedrooms on the ground
floor and 32 on the first floor, a residents' lounge/restaurant,
café, activity room, hydrotherapy room, changing room, and a
healthy living centre acting
as drop in" for the local elderly.
Construction is expected to be complete in October 2009.
