Topping Out at Castle Lane
Date published: 29 February 2008
Keeping with Tradition
Friday 8 February 2008 marked an important milestone in the construction of our Castle Lane project.
The Topping Out ceremony derives it's ancient origins from the belief that evil spirits entered a building during construction with the ceremony being a means of driving them out. It is traditionally held at the highest point of a new building, and the last bit of pouring of concrete represents the completion of the structure.
VIP guests included, David Freer Director of Complex Development Projects, Lord Mayor of Bedford, Frank Branston and many of the SDC team responsible for the whole project, notibly Francis Shiner MD and Rob Ebsworth Director.
Chris Chappell, Project Manager is pleased to report that the event went very well and the tradition is still strong within SDC.
